if you are able to boot into linux, it is not a boot problem. Boot into single user and run xconfigurator.

You shouldn't have to boot into single user mode to run Xconfigurator (which is located in /usr/X11R6/bin).
But, in case you want to know how to (or need to) boot into single user mode, you would type linux -s at the LILO boot prompt.

If you just installed it and haven't made any mods yet to the system it might be just as easy to reinstall. Pay attention when setting up you monitor and video cards. I do not remember which page of the installer it is on but there is an option to start with gui interface. It is set as default, so you must have unchosen it. don't do that.
Otherwise type Xconfigurator at the command prompt.

i did chose that option to start ith the GUI, i reinstalled RH, i disabled all of the advanced features in the bios. whenever the OS start the screen keeps blinking. i typed startx, a fatal server error showed up with those messages, (driver cannot support depth 24, screen found but not a useable configuration, no screens found) it's my first time using this, i installed it five times already, i don't even know how to move between the folders to change stuff. please help

I'm not sure why you messed with your BIOS in this case. The problem at first glance could be a XF86Config file.
I'd suggest restoring your BIOS to it's original state and then reinstalling.
During the install, make sure to NOT set up a graphical login.
If that all goes well, log in as root and run
Xconfigurator
This will write a new /etc/X11/XF86Config file for you based on what choices you select.
Also, Xconfigurator tests out the configuration so you can instantly see if it works.
Now, assuming that Xconfigurator finishes without showing an error message, you should be able to start an X session by typing "startx".
We could provide more specific help if you tell us the following details:
video card
monitor + resolution
choice of window manager (GNOME, KDE, TWM, etc)
linux is great but since it isn't factory installed, it requires a little more knowledge of how your system is set up.
Also, if you've got a diamond monster fusion card, it is well documented that this card does not work well with the 4.0 versions of X.
You can try installing the 3.3.6 version of X and it should work.
I'll explain that in another post.
i have a Kyro II (Hercules) 64 MB
Montier max resoultion is 1280 X 1024 with a .20 dot pitch
I have an AMD 1.2 CPU with 266 FSB
256 of DDR RAM crucail
i restored the bios as it was before, but why the screen keeps blinking after linux starts, thank you for your help, i hope i can get it to start. the problem is with the Xserver, i gave you the exact problem in the previous post.
sorry forgot to tell i got GNOME installed
