I thought it would be a good idea to install the nVidia drivers for my card for Mandrake7.2 so that I could access all of my supported resolutions and play 3D games. However, I am a total newbie and have so far only successfully installed RPMs included on the install CD and mozilla. I printed out linuxnewbie.org's instructions for installing the nVidia drivers for Mandrake and downloaded all of the necesary files, but I'm having second thoughts.

One instruction is "Exit out of X", which sounds perfectly sensible, since X is what I'll be messing with. However, I have no idea how to do this. I tried the option on the "Shutdown..." menu, but my computer hangs. Is there an easier way?

Also, has anyone had any luck with the linuxnewbie.org instructions for a Mandrake7.2 nVidia install? Any tips you have would be helpful.

Thanks

Hello!

Okay, first we gotta take care of that booting into X. As root, use DrakConf's X configuration tools to stop that. The next time you boot, it you will be taken to command line only.

The NHF I wrote for LNO was specifically for an older version of Mandrake. You can find one specifically for your version here:
