I am trying to configure apache in redhat 7.1, it is fairly straightforward and the help files are good, but I am sorta stuck on one little issue, and forgive me if this is terribly silly, as I feel it is, but couldn't find the answer after hours of searching google.
It asks for a 'fully qualified domain name', what exactly does this mean? When I went to a site to find out my ip address it gave me a set of 9 numbers, a well as something they called domain name, 6 digits mix of numbers and letters. Is this my FQDN? When searchng it seemed like it was something I have to pay for, is this like registering one for a website? If so I have a website, not hosted by me, could I use that domain name?
It also seems that maybe I don't have to have a FQDN, maybe I could just use my IP address?
Sorry for so many questions-but this is for newbies right!
