when i go to download something, where is the default file it goes to.

You mean where is the default folder, right? Probably your login directory. If your account name was "penguind00d" then this would be:

/home/penguind00d

ok but under netscape i go to download something and i click on the link and it brings me to a page full of code???
i think im missing something big here

yes, as I understand netscape doesn't understand all extensions , so u have to right click on the link and click "Save Link" or "save as " something like this ... don't remember :)

Right click the link and hit 'Save as...'
