well i went throught the faq like suggested int he other thread , i have read the read me and followed them word for word , im still not able to install anything , its probly something dumb im not doing right but anyway

anything i install (xmms,x-chat,etc ..)

i log in as root and go to the directory in the console


i type ./configure and this is what i get

[root@fleet xmms-1.2.5]# ./configure

I had the same problem when I wasn't paying attention to the install. I had to go back and install a compiler.

You need certain development packages and the c compiler installed for it to work.

I always do a full install of my distro so as to cut down on these type of problems. Full install then uninstall what I don't need. i.e. Italian, German documentation among many others. Start with around 1.5GB for a full install and just over 1GB when finished uninstalling unnecessary software.

Try installing the gcc compiler.

yup that was the deal , seems silly to not automaticly install that program , but you want full control , here we have a example ;)

I all depends on what type of install you choose. I do a full, some do workstation while others may select development. Of course it depends on the distro.
