I was browsing through the web site of ameritech (http://www.ameritech.com)
and found that they say their DSL service does not support linux.
I am guessing all this means is they have some software for windows which sets up everything for you--ie there would be no problem just setting up the DSL modem and hooking up my ethernet card.
Does anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks
After looking at the website, I found a little blurb on this page (http://www.ameritech.com/DSL_new/content/0,5289,20,00.html) that mentions it is UNIX/Linux compatible, but not supported. All this means is that you're smart enough to set it up but they're not. ;)
From experience and hundreds of other posts on this and other messageboards, 99% of the time you can run any version of Linux/BSD with Cable or DSL services with no problems. There, I said it. Come and get me, 1%!

Yeah, I kind of figured there is just some software which runs on mac/win which is idiot proof.
Thanks

Or is it, I'm using Southwestern Bell DSL connection and install it myself under Windoze Me/2000, using windoze stuff. It installed without a hitch. Later on I got a newer hardrive and thought I would need SWB software to get DSL working again and they sent me a cd disk. That crap didn't work at all. So I let windoze do its stuff again and it worked, well.
Also using MDK, I got DSL running without a hitch...so maybe their way is not too good using Win or linux.
