Hey guys, normally websites are served over port 80 right, my college blocks access to ports lower than 1024 it seems.

So, I had been serving on 8080 for the last year. I let some friends on my box as well who are using higher ports,
but recently, it seems that they have blocked access to those ports too! no 8080, no 1234, nothing.

I figure that maybe possibly there is a port they missed or something... but how could i find out which ports internet traffic is able to get through on this network?

any ideas?

thanks!

Sigh, I guess my webservice days are over for now.

I might have to take the box apart and build a router out of it with http://www.freesco.com...

why dont you ask the admin at school what ports are not blocked? if that doesnt work, tell him of your situation and ask him to open a port for you. he can forward a port request to your single ip address...so he can block the port to all computers except yours.

Yeah, it's the aparments network, not the schools, but I asked the head of the apartment place anyway.

Waiting for their response... going to bother them again tomorrow to see what'sup if they don't reply by the afternoon.

I don't think they're going to be very cooperative though :(

Harvey, did the users have to type in http://www.domain.com:8080/ or do you have a solution which allows them to just type http://www.domain.com/ and have it auto-forward them to 8080?
