I had something curious happen to me recently.
I'm running Storm hail (debian). I created a file called local in /etc/init.d. I plan to use that file as RH's equialent of rc.local so I can automagically start things at boot up. I created my symlink from /etc/rc2.d/S95local to /etc/init.d/local. Fine, seems to work.
Then when I booted the system up the next time instead of booting to the CLI it booted to X! What's up with that?!?!?
Anyone know?
I tried telinit 3-5 and nothing happened so it seems to have infected all of those run levels, too. :P
I think I know how to fix the problem, but I wanted to get some opinions first. I was thinking about removing gdm from my default run level (2).
How does that sound?
Thanks!
