I am looking into a way of serving web pages directly from my home pc.
I have read the posts here but as I am new to this it is a little confusing.
I have a static ip address with a dial up provider.
I registered a name last year with www.easyspace.com. (http://www.easyspace.com.) They registered it with Nominet.uk (www.nominet.org.uk) I didn't take up the web hosting service as I just wanted the email facility as I was always changing my isp.

Easyspace has a facility -"Allowing IP pointing / zone changes through the Easyspace shop" - but they charge £12.00 for this. I know it's not a lot but after looking at CentralInfo - they do it for free.

Can I just enter details there - if possible - or will I get into trouble with easyspace and have to go through them anyway?

TIA

www.primethepump.org (http://www.primethepump.org)

ok, point your domain at the centralinfo.net name servers

PRIMARY NS1.CENTRALINFO.NET 63.102.200.2
SECONDARY NS2.CENTRALINFO.NET 63.102.204.130

i like to register at www.dotster.com (http://www.dotster.com) because they have an online admin tool, makes it easy to change your domains ns's, they also have a transfer service

next, create a free dns account at centralinfo.net, then enter your static ip there.

that's it! as long as your server is connected, it will be online

Thanks for the reply.
Will I need to do the transfer through easyspace first. Or do I not need to bother with them?

no, for example i registered www.fobot.net (http://www.fobot.net) with network solutions through a web hosting company, www.burlee.com. (http://www.burlee.com.) to switch my domain over to my own box, i will just change the name servers that network solutions has for my domain (currently the burlee.com ns's) over to the centralinfo.net ns's, add www.fobot.net (http://www.fobot.net) to my centralinfo.net account, put my static ip into the www.fobot.net (http://www.fobot.net) entry in my centralinfo.net account

hope that makes sense, it is really pretty easy, just remember if your server isn't on and somebody sends email to that domain, it will bounce
