i set up apache properly, and set up httpd properly...next step was to configure my linksys cable/dsl router to forward port 80 to my linux box....when i scan my router with nmap it reports port 80 as filtered....alas i cannot connect to my box from outside of my local network. (ie. the web) could this filtered port be causing my problems? how do i unfilter it when theres no option to unfilter it in the routers web based config. can i unfilter this?

ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/befsr41ug.pdf should help. Specifically page 15.

look in your router for advanced/filter
there you will see the filter options
unfilter from there.
simply by removing the machins ip or remove the port from the filter list

if i do that i wont be able to get to my linux box from the net....im forwarding port 80 from the router to my linux box, which has a private ip....the router uses the wan ip (public ip)

thanks for the pdf, but it only talks about filtering the port, i want to unfilter it....there are no entries in the "filtered" section on the router...so im not manually filtering the port....i want to UN-filter the port....any ideas?

strange, I was using the exact setup you are all i did was forward the port to the machine I want to server my webpages and it worked fine.all i had to do then was use my routers WAN adress in my prowser and my pages were servered to the world. if you have no entries in the filter section of your router then reboot the power on your modem and pcs. I don't know what else could cuase the problem.

when you scan your wan ip address does it report port 80 ( or 1080 ) as being filtered?
