I was just wondering if there's any way to being able to play starcraft on linux. I intend to use mandrake 8.1

Yep and it works perfectly for me.

check out winehq (http://www.winehq.com)

you may not even have to go that complcated path so try codeweavers (http://www.codeweavers.com)
and since you got drake u should be able to grab the i386 package and install it w/ out open-gl support.

try it out and post any issues.

I have used codeweavers before and it was a snap, I would recommend setting up X for 640x480 only, otherwise you will have this annoying desktop scrolling problem.

I've been wanting to get SC installed, but there is no drivers available for my video card in Linux. Will it need this?

as long as x runs I believe starcraft does not require open-gl
