Hey, I don't know much about the games that loki ports to linux, my question is whether or not they are true ports or do they use wine or something? I'm interested in getting Alpha Centauri.
Thanks,
Mike

I'm interested in getting Alpha Centauri. Thanks, Mike Craig McPherson 06-17-2001, 09:31 PM Yes, they're real ports. Loki cuts a deal with the game's developer to get porting rights in exchange for splitting the profits. And it's a full publication of the game, with a Loki-branded manual with Linux instructions instead of Windows instructions, a full Loki-branded retail box, etc. It's kinda impressive that Loki can pull that off -- I didn't think the Linux gaming market would be large enough for them to get away with publishing manuals and everything, I was expecting to get Windows manuals with photocopied Linux instructions, until I got my first order of Loki games: it was all very professional and impressive. Some of Loki's packages even go beyond the Windows version by including add-ons, mods, and other stuff that didn't exist when the Windows version was released. I've run into a couple technical problems with Loki games, but their web site had patches that fixed all of them, and although I've never had to use it, their support is excellent. ph34r 06-17-2001, 11:16 PM I had to use their support once (cracked my Q3 cd when I moved...)... I had a new CD 3 days later. And yes, everything is exceptional - even their updater - its apt-get for games! justlinux.com
