I've got Red Hat 7.0 and a GeForce 2 MX, with the drivers working perfectly for 2D mode. I installed the Nvidia GLX package without problems, as well. However, when I try to run games like Quake III that use 3D, they die when switching to full-screen mode:

X Error of failed request: GLXBadRenderRequest
Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (X_GLXRender)
Serial number of failed request: 3755
Current serial number in output stream: 375

The 3D itself seems to be working fine, since I can i.e. see player models in the Quake III setup screen. Just when the game tries to switch modes, it dies.

Any ideas?

I don't know if this will work because I don't use Redhat but:

There is a rpm kernel module specifically for Redhat 7 users on irc.openprojects.net #nvidia.

1. This is an IRC channel.
2. Read the topic to access the files.
3. I have pimped this sight a lot lately, but they are an excellent resource for anyone who uses an nvidia card in Linux. Go there.

uhh... did you install the kernel for NVIDIA??? it's pretty much crucial to have that installed or else openGL will not work!!!!! I have a how-to (not composed by me though) for mandrake 7.0 (i don't know if it's the same though.... but i have a feeling that it's pretty much the same).
Go check it for fun... i won't hurt! :P
