Hmmm, do you have a Rage card? Accelerated support for them rocks in 4.0.1... That is, if you're willing to take the dangerous risk of upgrading. X0lution 12-10-2000, 08:01 AM No, I have a RivaTNT. I tried upgrading to 4.0.1 like a week ago but it screwed over and i couldn't get into X, so I don't want to attempt upgrading for a while. A_Lawn_GNOME 12-10-2000, 11:34 AM I have my TNT working okay in X4.0.1 . I really need more mem (64 now) and then I'll be set. I think your best option is to try your best to get to X4 . Nvidia's drivers are made for them and they work. What's going on now is that Mesa is trying its best to use the software renderer, which is really icky. Oh, if you finally get it running in X4, ignore any apparent freezes or anything. I thought it had crashed but it was really just hanging for 3 minutes. It continues normally after that. Sterling 12-11-2000, 09:50 AM Here's a suggestion (worked for me) - try going into your .ini file and changing: AudioDevice=ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem to AudioDevice=Audio.GenericAudioSubsystem There seems to be some serious performance problems with the ALAudio drivers, which are (unfortunately) all Loki's supporting now. A warning, though: things like the UT Chaos Mod will most likely crash with the generic audio subsystem. They'll work fine with the ALAudio drivers, but performance will suffer - badly. ------------------ -Sterling -This post made with the Lizard! BobjoB 12-11-2000, 02:07 PM you need to get a demo file (eg: wicked400.dem for most benchmarks) at the console type: timedemo 1 demoplay wicked400 and watch the S*** hit the fan bonefish 12-13-2000, 09:08 AM I just installed 4.0.1 under Slackware, and also compiled the drivers for my TNT2, but for some reason GL is prone to crashing under WMaker. I've tried Q3 under blackbox, which works fine, but UT still gives me crap under GL. software rendering is quicker, but the sound is crap. justlinux.com
