I was just wondering how many folks here have played NetHack (http://nethack.org/)?
Playing that in Windows is what really got me interested in Linux as some things didn't work in Windows (and Windows would crash, etc.)

I've played it. It's tough, though.. I always die from lack of food. :)

nethack is one of my favourite games.
I play it whenever I'm in the CLI without X and I have to spend a couple hours compiling something.
that game has to be the greatest time waster ever created :D

For the past couple of days now, I've been browsing through the NetHack sources trying to figure out how to implement just that.

If you are hungry and you don't have anything to eat, just pray...

First, from everything I have read at the official Nethack site, there are NO plans to ever implement multiplayer. Sorry, but if you want that, you're going to have to hack the code yourself. The team gives its reasons, btw.
Second, the graphics version of Nethack is called Falcon's Eye, and the home page is - http://falconseye.sourceforge.net/
My wife liked it so much when she first tried it that she went and found the Windows version and installed it on the other computer we have.

I love Nethack! As for tips for installation Grognard, just get one of the packages or the source off of Nethack's site. You GOTTA use the Qt version though, and the packages on the site only have ones compiled for Qt 2.2 and 2.3, so if you're running 3.x, you gotta compile your own. Go to www.nethack.de for any strategy and FAQs and stuff like that.

Yeah, but don't do this too often or your god will get mad and do nasty things to you.
I think you can only safely pray once every 400-500 turns, or something. It always helps to sacrifice things...

Just, if you're a gnome, don't accidentally pick up gnome corpses and accidentally eat them. Typos!

Wow, I'm finally back after mucho trouble logging in the new board.
If you want an easy install and you are running Gentoo, just:
emerge falconseye
Portage downloads it, all the dependences, compiles and installs it.

Gentoo is nifty :). Although personally I'm not a big fan of Falcon's Eye. I think it's just a tad on the lame side. I'd rather play it with the graphics that come with it or textmode than that isometric bull****. Perhaps if they added some animation...
