I've just ordered Tribes 2 from linuxemporium and can't wait to play it on Slack8. Anyone played this on linux? Was the installation easy? How much hdd space does it take? Any tips?
 Tribes 2 on Slackware

Sorry, no :(

The Loki installer is supposed to be pretty polished - I don't think you'll have any major problems.

Loki website reports 500Mb disk space needed. See here (http://www.lokigames.com/products/tribes2/)

's OK. [Just trying to stay ahead in number of posts ;) ]
Unfortunately my machine ain't man enough to run Tribes 2, I don't think. But I'm thinking of saving up for (the classic) Hopkins FBI, and perhaps Soldier of Fortune.
Although, still not 100% sure my 3dfx card is working under Linux :(

I ran SOF when I had win2k on before I forked out for my ram. I have 450MHz w/64MB RAM. It lagged really badly. When I upgraded to 256MB RAM it ran very smoothly indeed. That's another game I want for linux...maybe next month.

Hold on - why aren't I allowed to post images anymore?

probably because the HAL's know what kind of images you have on you hdd. Why else would you need a 60GB HDD??? ;)

Not posting from home. Posting from work. Don't got no images, but like to post links in from mysmilies.com (http://www.mysmilies.com)
60Gb drives are for MP3s or multiple distros, not pr0n, anyway.

I have tribes 2 for windows & linux, and the linux version runs every bit as well as my windows version. Although I am missing some sounds such as the jet engine noise, and the repair pack noise...they work only sometimes. I'm sure that has to do with my sound driver as also my sounds in the desktop are delayed.
The installation for the linux version is by far easier. Once you get past mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/cdrom /cdrom it's cake from there.
I don't remember how much space it takes up as with 30 gig's to play with I don't much look at stuff like that.

Got my Tribes2 this morning before work, so I installed it and had a quick play. The installation is excellent, just as easy as a windows installation. All the sounds work fine and it is just as good as it is on windows and runs just as smoothly. The game only takes about 500 MB maximum. My spec:
Slackware 8.0
PIII 450MHz
768MB RAM
32MB Geforce II MX
2GB partition

It's bashing my cpu a bit but it doesn't lag. Any lower spec and I'd be stuffed!
