Just managed to get Q2 running under Mandrake 7.1 without much trouble (gfx card - Nvidia GeForce2 MX400). The only thing is - the textures on all the moving brushes (doors, platforms, etc.) are much, much darker than they should me. Has anyone else experienced this? And is it the drivers, or the Q2 Linux code? Not that it makes the game unplayable, but it gives my Windows-using friends something to ridicule...

play with the gl_modulate and similar settings in your quake 2 config file. There are plenty of sites that list those options. Try www.voodooextreme.com/3Fingers (http://www.voodooextreme.com/3Fingers) I believe they have a Q2 guide.

If other stuff looks dark too (it did on my computer, GF2 GTS), you can do an xgamma -gamma 1.7 before you start Q2 to set the gamma higher, then an xgamma -gamma 1.0 after you're done playing to set it back.

You could even make a quake2 script that does this, runs the game, and sets it back for you, if you wanted.

Thanks for the suggestions! I should've been more exact. Everything looks fine - all the graphics are as bright as in the Windows version - except the moving brushes and doors. These are the only textures appearing too dark. Just had a look on Google Groups and a couple of people have reported this as well, but no-one had any cures.
