G'Day ,
I'm using Red Hat 7.1 and keep getting lockups in Gnome and KDE as they are loading.
I reboot then get a message that says a error occurred during the file system check and to use fsck manually.
What should I do ?

when you reboot it should get you to a point where you can run fsck so do "fsck /dev/hda" I think and it should do the trick.

If you were using the reiser filesystem you wouldn't have this problem.

With your crashing problem I can't really suggest anything without more info. Has this computer run stable before or with another OS? What distro are you using? If you run just X by typing "X" does it crash also? (leave X with ctrl-alt-backspace) If it does crash with runnning just X then the contents of your "/var/log/XFree86.0.log" file could be useful.
