first off, thank you for the responses to my previous post about running Linux on a 386 Compaq ...

in the meantime, i actually started palying with the thing and learned about it's stats. it's really a 486, 16RAM, 66mhz, with a 342meg hd. fun, eh?

i've downloaded Vector Linux and i'm looking to put it on the Compaq, but there's one slight problem... the DOS partition has been deleted! (it's funny too, i'm getting a nice little "Missing Operating System" message when i boot up, hehe)

how do i install Vector on it? i'm assuming i need to make a boot disk of some sort so i can format the 342meg partition into Linux. i've got a command.com file on a Linux Boot i had lying around and it's allowing me to at least get an a: prompt.

any ideas?

I would imagine that Vector Linux would have bootdisk images you can download or else they are provided within the iso image that was burned on CD.

Have you checked the install CD for a dosutil or whatever directory that contains the diskette images?

Any documentation at the Vector Linux site?
