Is This Safe?

To have a laptop on the same desk as a desktop? With two speakers with a subwoofer, a scanner, monitor and modem? The speaker are supposed to be magnetically shielded but what about the subwoofer? Will that be magnetically shielded too?

LCD's are not affected [by magnetism] in the same manner a CRT monitor. With an LCD there are no "beams" being shot onto the back of the screen. This is why you need to degauss/recal your CRT beam guns sometimes.

True, you're not going to want to open the subwoofer casing and place the laptop against the magnet inside. Most PC audio equiptment manu's take into account the fact that a user may put the device right on top of thier monitor. If the device has a UL or EC certification sticker they are more than likely shielded well enough.
