I just helped this guy in "General" and, well (typical) he goes on about installing various distros after another and none pass the second installation screen.

So I thought:"why not have a hardware&BIOS checklist of sorts so they can first find out if their H/W is up to the task first?"

Something like:
Is your comp relatively new?
Name brand? Clone? DIY?
Old or new but nonetheless worn out contacts?
Dirty fans? heatsinks on right?
If DIY==yes, then did you use an anti-static mat and grounding bracelet when installing those expensive new mem-modules you bought yesterday? http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/wink.gif
yadda yadda yay...you know?

It shouldn't turn out to be too long. I'm not too comfortable with my own knowledge of h/w stuff, but I will contibute my 2 eurocents where applicable.
