For those that know what vbulletin is....I am considering it more and more everyday. In fact its almost a definite change coming. Just gotta wait for both UBB and Vbulletin to come out of beta.

Again, for those that know what it is...would you mind telling me your thoughts on why LNO should switch over. SO others can read.

Well, #1, vbulletin is taken care of by php/mysql if i'm not mistaken. Which is plus #1 through 1000

Also from what I've heard, UBB has a few backdoors, which I haven't confirmed since I can't afford the dang thing and vbulletin...well I've never heard of it having any backdoors, plus #1001

Negatives, well...it won't have the exact same feel as the ubb, might be a different switch over administration wise, different tools and what not.

I haven't had extensive experience with either of them, but it just seems that moving to vbulletin could be a really good idea.

Note: is there a util. to switch ubb-archives/users to vbulletin-archives/users? That would be a big downside if everyone had to re-register.

Have you taken a look at phpBB? free opensourced bulletin board. Uses php/mysql. http://www.phpbb.com/

Actually, if you're interested in vBulletin, then you should check out PhpBB. It's handled by PHP with a MySQL backend. It's very quick, and very configurable. Users can even set their own themes. :D

I agree. phpbb is awsome. I'd show an example, but my server just crashed. (Friggin cheap *** memory)

If I ever get the thing back running again, an example will be here:
www.geeksanctuary.com/phpbb/ (http://www.geeksanctuary.com/phpbb/)

Do it up, Sensei.

I run the site Horrordvds.com. I too, like you, upgraded to UBB6 beta. Users have complained a lot, plus Infopop's price increases are outrageous. Even to stay on support so you can get updates has become too expensive for me.

Once VB has their import script completed for UBB6, I'm SOOO there. Besides the price, it's more efficient, faster, secure and has cooler features.

Not to mention that you CAN sell your UBB license, which will easily pay for a 1-year lease of VB (or maybe even a full copy).

I have been a big vBulletin fan, but now that I've seen phpBB, I'm pretty impressed with it as well... Fast cross-forum searches!

Either one will be better than UBB...

Hey, best bang for your buck is ebay! I was thinking I'd post a bit on my main news page too...just to see if anyone was interested. My support doesn't expire till June, so that's an attraction right there.

I cant give technical reasons just personal
thoughts.I go to quite a few boards and the ones that I like are UBB and vBulletin.I like the way VB looks by default.I actually tried it out once as an experiment and it was pretty easy to install and setup.PHPBB is also nice and is pretty speedy on the searches.I set that one up also and tested it with some script I got somewhere.I guess its a matter of personal choice for the Admin
as to how much effort will be needed to make the board look and funtion great.
After all this dribble go for VB

Just out of curiosity: how much diskspace do these forums require on the webserver?
