watch what happens when i type a harmless list of www's seperated by commas
www.foo.com, (http://www.foo.com,) www.yar.net, (http://www.yar.net,) www.baz.org, (http://www.baz.org,) www.snafu.com, (http://www.snafu.com,) foo.bong.org

notice the DAMN COMMAS that got stuck in the url (and the fact that foo.bong.org didn't get auto-mutilated).

PLEASE disable this redundant 'feature'. if i WANT a damn link, and i'm too dense to read the UBB code page, that's what the fscking "Instant UBB Code" is for.

just bloody irritating is all.

no, no, no.

that is NOT what i am referring to

type with me kids:

w-w-w-.-w-h-a-t-e-v-e-r-.-c-o-m

take out the dashes and you get

www.whatever.com (http://www.whatever.com) <--- appears as a link AFTER hitting the submit button

i am not talking about typing in, or using instant UBB code to generate, [ URL ] tags to PURPOSELY add a link. i am talking about links that are CREATED by the UBB SCRIPTS WITHOUT the user adding any indication that he wants it to be a link.

and just for more clarification, add a comma.

so type:
w-w-w-.-w-h-a-t-e-v-e-r-.-c-o-m-,

take out the dashes and you get
www.whatever.com, (http://www.whatever.com,) <--- appears as a link AFTER hitting the submit button

(oh, and i couldn't edit my previous post, all the text above the code tag was missing when i tried to edit it. i guess i should put that in the bug forum.)

Gotcha.

I didn't realize that UBB had put in the auto tags... I thought you still had to add them yourself....

it's irritating, as shown above, but even more irritating if you type out a long *** url like
www.thisdomaindoesntexist.com/script?5093450j345kj2332453245+34953jl45k2j23l5kn3 2l5knm23l5alksdjlkasjdlkj32l4knm2l4km2l3m4242l3m42 lm4k2l3m4k2l3m42lkm4l2km42lkm42lm4k2l4 (http://www.thisdomaindoesntexist.com/script?5093450j345kj2332453245+34953jl45k2j23l5kn3 2l5knm23l5alksdjlkasjdlkj32l4knm2l4km2l3m4242l3m42 lm4k2l3m4k2l3m42lkm4l2km42lkm42lm4k2l4)

and it turns it into a useless URL that screws up the message table and makes it look all ugly and ****.

not to mention creating links inside code tags. HELLO?!@ wtf is the point of code tags then.

i need to get in on one of these open-source BB projects, and get it done right. it's be nice to have that kind of time.

I think they're kind of handy, actually. A lot of times, people won't manually URL'ize their URLs, and I like to be able to click a link to go to it even if the poster didn't think to do that. It's handier than copy-pasting. It would be nice if it could be turned off on a per-post basis for one of those few instances when it shouldn't be done. There could be a checkbox at the bottom of the post page for it, for example. Most of the time, I think it's cool, though, just be sure to put a space between the end of your URL and any punctuation mark, to make sure it doesn't get included.

it would definitely be sufficient to have a checkbox, and/or preferably a preference setting to disable auto-urls like that similar to the smiley disabling checkbox.

or just a general "make this whole post un-processed plain text" button (what code tags SHOULD do)
