Have you checked out Sourceforge? I wouldn't be surprised if someone had one cooking there.

This really belongs in the X Windows section, but whatever.

There are quite a number of them actually. The first that comes to mind is 3dwm (http://www.3dwm.org/).

well i wasnt really referring to a 3d wm more like a hardware accelerated one. osxs' interface is built upon opengl and thats what makes the interface look so clean.

What do you mean by making it look clean?

I was under the impression that it uses open gl becuase when you close windows, genies, et al it uses beizer curves and that is offloaded to the graphics cards so that the processor isn't hogged down.

Also other cool things that it supports (like semi thourgh full transparency) is achieved because it is suppored natievly ( I don't this is done though opengl but it does make use of vid card). Unfortuanly X does not support this yet ( but it is in the works, check out Keith Packard's page on XFree86.org).

Also I blieve the cleen look can also be contribted to its actual design. It's just so slick. I mean the dock, oooh purty. I bought a powerbook just becuase of OS X and I love it :-D
