when i first install caldera2.4 i went to update the kernel (it comes with 2.2.14...eww). So i went to kernel.org and downloaded a few patches one being 2.2.15.

I read the little file and it said that to install it i had to type gzip -cd patch-2.2.15.gz | patch -p0

during the patch (or thats what i think it was doing... stuff started to roll down the terminal... i assume that was it)

all of a sudden i get this thing that looks kind of like this:

file to patch: (what do i put here? If i hit enter i get a message asking "skip this patch? [y]"

Help me please... I'm doing this on a fresh install of Caldera2.4, i've even paniced in that i did... a complete install... 1.3ish gigs... gasp.

thanks again

I also tried installing it with this command:

zcat patch-2.2.15.gz | patch -p0

I got the same problem... file to patch... arg

I also read that by typeing in "patch -R" it would resetup the old kernel... before the patch... it hangs... not my system... by it just doesn't do anything.

That will patch unmodified source, which you pro'ly don't have on your system. Download the full 2.2.18 kernel source package if you want to upgrade.
