Hey all, it's been a while. Anyway, I just came into possesion of an old laptop. It's a pentium 133 with one bay that swaps between a cdrom and a floppy. I got it because the harddrive went out and it was useless to it's former owner. I was wondering if I might be able to set up one of those demo cd's for it (y'know, the ones that boot linux from the cd without touching the hard disk) with maybe blackbox and few of the apps I want (like kdevelop, wordperfect8, the right xserver, and a few other things like that). I have a cd burner now on my main computer, so making a custom cd isn't the problem, but I have no clue where to find those demos now. I haven't heard anything about them in a while. Oh, one more thing: sometimes you can access the harddrive, but it's really slow and even then takes three or four tries, and much of the disk is now composes of bad sectors. Really weird, huh.

Why don't you get a 2nd-hand laptop hard-drive. Most laptops have properitary connections between the hard-disk and the laptop but often you can simply unscrew (or clip off) them from the old hard drive and attach it to the new.

Well, the only hard drive I have to hand would be a 200mb (that's right, mb) one, but the idea to change the attachments may still work to help me. I think the demo cd idea is still better, though. Now I'll just also be able to mount the drive for a little bit of permanent storage. I'm not sure the cd's were customizable, but I'm getting ahead of myself: all I really need right now is where to find (or download an image of) one.
