I have installed Suse 7.0 succesfully in my PIII, 500 Mhz, Motherboard
LMRT 748, 128 mb of memory, with a SIS 620 video chip, and with a little
problem with the graphic mode, easily solved, it worked well.

I tried to upgrade to suse 7.1 and it was impossible. When the
installation program tried to start the computer hangs when it reach:

SuSE Installation program v 1.1 .......

I have tried several suggestions including:

linux apm=off (disable in the bios too)
linux vga=normal
linux mem=120M
linux hwprobe=-isapnp
linux hwprobe=-all
Disable the cmos memory in the bios
Disable USB port in the bios
Use a clock of 333MHZ through the bios
Use the second CD to install
Use the floppy disk to install
Press the shift key during boot
Update the Bios

The of the installation is complete, no other console works: Ctrl+Alt+Fxx does not work..

I tried with Mandrake 7.2 and Mandrake 8.0 and i had similar problem. I installed Corel Linux 2 and Mandrake 7.0 and worked well.
I think may be the problem is related with the kernel version.

The caracteristic of the computer are the following:

- Processor: manufacturer, frequency (MHz)
+++ Intel Pentium III, 500Mhz
- Motherboard: manufacturer, name
+++ 748 LMRT (pc 100)
- Main Memory: size of RAM

I've heard that some distros have problems installing if the cdrom is set as the slave device.

You could try removing unnecessary devices to see if you can narrow it down.

Other than that, hopefully someone else has had similiar problems and can offer suggestions.

Have you tried the SuSE support site or a Google search? May help...
