I've been using Linux as a networked server for a few years now. In the past few months, more than a handful of people have asked me similar questions about how I setup my stuff.
On my website I've added a section which serves as a mini-mini-howto for various home network setups, such as DNS, DHCP, SMB, and so on. http://yunt.net/network/
My goal isn't to rewrite howtos, or even begin to go into the detail of a NHF - rather I have documented how *I* did things.
