Is making a cable modem work difficult?

I just moved into a house that already has mediaone/AT&T to one windows computer. My room mates are all for me setting up a small network with IP netmasking, etc (if I can figure it out), so the one thing I don't know is how to make the whole internet hook up work. Is there a lot to making a cable modem work with linux?

Yah, it's pretty easy. You'll wanna set up a strong firewall, and harden the firewall box too. Heres a good source: http://www.ecst.csuchico.edu/~dranch/LINUX/index-linux.html

The guy who does this is very talented. He has published some stuff thru SANS too.
