It's an up-and-coming (aka still in beta) Debian distro.
For grins and giggles I did a fresh Debian install on a spare partition and did the appropriate upgrades via apt-get and it all works (so far) but was wondering if anyone else has taken a look at it and if you see any major differences/benefits of it?
Oh, here's the site if you want a looksee. http://www.progeny.com/

By the way, according to the site, there isn't an iso to be used/tested yet so you have to simply upgrade from a debian 2.2 (potato) system. Installed a kernel 2.2.18pre15 pretty smoothly.

I have a 5 gig partition for my linux playground and tried it. I got some errors... unmet dependencies. Oh well, I'll figure it out later.

Any thing special that comes with Progeny?

Rod

The only issues I came up with were a couple items with postgresql but I believe that got remedied later in the upgrade.
It did think I had netscape but I did not. And that created some confusion for apt-get so I did apt-get -f install (with no package specification) and it took care of communicator and such.
Otherwise, it upgraded my kernel (that was easy... I think) to 2.2.18pre15 and and some gui package configuration tools. Also X 4.0.1 and it's supposed to have a few other gui-fied config tools but I'm not clear on what. It sounds as if the selling point (with the next and upcoming ISO release) will be an enhanced install with much-improved hardware autodetection. The site says more but I'll leave it at that for now.
I haven't played with it much but so far it seems to be an average version of debian.
I'll report when I know more.

I tried to apt-get the thing by following the directions at the website and after an hour of downloading.....splat.

dependency errors.

Think I'll wait for an ISO to show up somewhere. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif

Right now, Im very happy with Storm! http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

Yeah, I like storm, too.
I was just curious.
I didn't have any dependency errors except the postgreSQL one mentioned in my above post.
But, after playing with it a bit last night and running into a few other "issues", I decided to give Progeny more time with it.
Off she went! I put pure debian back on that spare partition. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
I , too, will wait for an iso release.
