Kernel compile question

Does anyone know of a problem compiling new kernels (with the "make" commands) in SuSE Professional 7.0? I follow their instructions, which go pretty much hand-in-hand like RedHat does it, but when I get to "make modules", it goes through a few iterations and tells me that there's "nothing to do". I end up with an empty image. Thanx for any suggestions.
