Open up a window within KDE2, then right click on the top part of it. You'll be presented with a menu that'll allow you to selected a new "widget" thus changing the appearance of your window.

You may want to look for Control Center. It's in the K menu. Click it and you'll be presented with different ways of customizing your desktop.

If what you want to customize is the bottom panel. Right click on it and select preferences, this will allow you to add background buttons to each and everyone of your launch buttons on the K panel as well as allow you to theme the panel with a "tile" or image of your choice.

Did you know that you can make the "konsole" look clear, tinted and/or shaded?
NO, then open a new terminal/konsole and select settings from the menu(s) above.

Hope this helps.
