I downloaded RealPlayer 7 and I followed all the install instructions including renaming the file and then installing it.
I tried in both the console and from the RedHat package manager.
I get the following error message:

Cannot open packages index using db3.
Permission denied.

---> The RPM database cannot be opened in
db3 format. If you have just upgraded
the RPM package you need to convert
your database to db3 format by running
"RPM --rebuilddb" as root.

error: cannot open packages database in
/var/lib/rpm

Any suggestions?
By the way, I've only been on Linux a week but so far so good. You guys have already been a big help.
Thanks again!
Len

You'll need to log on as root in order to install packages.

Constitutional Republic: Same as above, but lamb's not on the menu (unless the wolves are really hungry).

I WAS logged on as root. Same error message.

I had the exact same thing with RedHat 6.2. I couldn't get the RPM file installed, so I downloaded the .BIN file that was listed under "Linux 2.x (libc6 i386)" instead of "Linux 2.x (libc6 i386) RPM". Then I simply did a ./filename.bin and everything went in fine. Worked like a champ.

Oops... sorry... wrong article... might still be of some help though.
