I installed Mandrake 7.2 but seems like gcc did not get installed. So, which files should I install to make it work?

There is an awful lot of them at ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gcc/

I tried to whereis and find gcc, to no avail. So, I think it might be easiest to just download/install it.

Did you do an install from a CD? If so, then what you need should be on the CDs. You'll need the gcc, gcc-cpp, gcc-c++, libstdc++, and libstdc++-devel. If those packages depend on other packages that aren't already installed, it'll tell you.

I tried to install those packages from the cd's, but now it seems that something has gone wrong during the install.
It cannot even find "make".
Can it be that Mandrake7.2 comes without gcc and make? Or am I just a schmuck?

You can find them as well in the Mandrake 7.2 section at rpmfind.net. (http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/mandrake/Mandrake/7.2/i586/Mandrake/RPMS/ByName.html)
