help on * Hostname self-lookup failed

my box doesnt resolve,its just an ip and its been up for a while,i can do everything,lynx,irc,bx,kicq,u name it..but with the eggdrops it says:

* Hostname self-lookup failed

and its an error,what do i fix in my hostnames or what to fix it?

try typing this at a prompt

echo $HOSTNAME

...anything? Try...

cat /etc/hosts

what does it say? it should have something like this

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
<your IP> <your hostname> <alias>

there might be more, but at least two should show up...if not open /etc/hosts in a text editor and add the info...let me know how this goes...
