It seems that I use to be able to right click the desktop to add a new icon to my gnome desktop. I don't see this with the Mandrake 8.0 installation of Linux.
Is there a quick guide to adding desktop icons in Gnome somewhere? Or could someone give the quick and dirty steps to do this?
Thank you very much.

I'm not entirely sure about gnome.
Is there a folder in your home directory that Gnome uses to store it's desktop icons? (I know KDE uses /home/feztaa/Desktop to store my desktop icons).
If said directory exists, you could copy, move, or link files into this directory...
Or you could just try dragging a file onto your desktop.

I reinstalled and did NOT select nautilus as my icon manager this time. Now it works the way GNome was suppose to work.

Yeah, this is a Nautilus thing, though you can still drag items off the panel menu to the Nautilus desktop, there's no "right-clicking" to put a new icon on the desktop. You can still put programs in your .gnome-desktop directory and they'll show up on your Nautilus desktop.
