I had to reinstall my system because of serious problems with the hard drive and X. I have Mandrake 7.2, and a Netgear FA311. It isn't supported in Mandrake, and I had to get a driver to support it. I put the driver in the net directory in the modules dir. I added alias eth0 natsemi to modules.conf, but that doesn't do anything. I was in linuxconf, in the adaptor section, it has a list of modules that it can use for the ethernet card. In the help file it said that these modules are ones with the inst* prefix, the ones that came installed with the kernel. How could I install the driver properly?

Using linuxconf, type in the name of the module you want to use in net module under net devices. You could probably leave the IRQ and I/O blank if you are using PNP. Set your IP addy if using static. Exit and activate changes. Might have to reboot.

Yeah, I did all that correctly. Problem is, in boot time, it doesn't load eth0 (as far as I can tell). Boot log doesn't have anything. I think the stupid Drak utility that normally controls networking is mucking this up. Well at least it's fun to put blame on it.

Oh yeah, and one more thing. Is there any way I can type in the commands manually in the rc.local script? I have to bind the module to the device eth0.

I managed to get the module to load by myself. I am writing this message from inside linux using Konqueror. Yay!
bobarian,
Details on how you did it? I have an FA-311 (which isn't supported by my RH 6.2 kernel either) and I'm having a b!tch of a time getting it going. The drivers that came on the Netgear disk gave me no end of problems. Who's driver did you use- Netgear's? Becker's Natsemi driver?
