Is there a way in linux (pretty sure there is) to do what you can do in windows with the file "autorun.inf" in a cd.
i.e.; when you insert a cd, it automatically starts the program defined with "open=" in a file called autorun.inf in the cd.
Any alternatives, ideas?

That is a horrible idea - I always hated it.

I don't think there's a way, at least with sensible distros.

What I wanna do is to build a linux box to use as an mp3 player. I wanna make as idiot-friendly as I can. So I want to insert a cd with mp3s and a playlist, and xmms will start automatically playing the list.
Any Ideas ?

maybe automount has some feature that would help with this? (i think it's called automount, at least in 'drake).

those autorun.inf things are ****ing annoying.
