Hello!
I have attempted to install RH 7 on a Dell Inspiron 8000, which came with Win2000. I am having problems with the Display type information. I have picked generic LCD display with a 1024x768, and it hangs. What is driving me up a wall is that if the installation hangs, I have to start all over.
I have started over quite a few times needless to say.
This is all I know as far as hardware:
Rage Mobility 128 AGP 4x (16Mb)
Win2000 shows a generic monitor driver(1400x1050, 60Hz)

Hello.
I have not dealt with your problem but here are some links that should help you fix your problem.
This link is for a Dell Inspiron 7000 but it discusses driver issues with the Rage mobility chip.

Here is another thing that might help you:

The main page where this all came from is the linux laptop page. This is good to peruse through and helped me get it running on my laptop (s3 chip so sorry) that i am posting from right now. Here's the link

Hope this helps.

I have an inspiron 7000, have had just about everything install fine on it (except stormix).
The video server should be any of the atis that will work, there is probably one specifically for your card. For monitor, just put generic svga monitor. It shouldn't matter since it's a laptop. I imagine that the problem is the card. Try using a lower power server for the video card, that might work.

Thank you so very much for the suggestions.
I read every link suggested and somehow ended up in egroups/linux-dell-laptops.
I managed to get a successful installation with the a generic svga monitor selection.
I then edited my xf86config-4 file as posted in http://www.egroups.com/message/linux-dell-laptops/1656
and that solved my display problems.
I am still having to boot in interactive mode and replying "no" to network, nfslock, and pcmcia, as i am in need of drivers, which I plan to get at work tomorrow.
Again many thanks,
