hi,
yesterday I tried to replace win98 with suse 7.2 on my old pentium box. I dl'ed the boot images from ftp.suse.org and made the boot/modules disk. then I tried to do the ftp install (using DSL), but it failed. I was hoping that some of you had any experience with this (anyone done a successful ftp install of 7.2, that can share some detailed guidelines?)

i entered my ip settings, the ip of ftp.suse.com (202.58.118.12) and specified /pub/suse/i386/7.2 as the dl directory. then the dl started and lasted a couple of minutes until the progress bar was 100% full. then things froze up.

after searching a bit on the net, i realized that i could look at the console using Alt-F3 and Alt-F4. I don't have the messages in front of me now, but it was something like 200 times "Caught signal 15!" and "Out of memory" along with a number of other messages regarding things that could not start (i can probably reproduce the messages when i get home and give you more details then). i am running 64mb pentium @ 200mhz with an onboard ATI graphics chip.

it seems to me that the install program (yast?) has been downloaded but fails to start up. anyone experienced something similar? any ideas (except going back to win98 or buying the distr.)?

thanks,
Paal Ingierd

Anywhere you can check what the minimum requirements are for SuSE 7.2? Maybe 64MB and P200 are not enought for yast.
