Thanks in advance Rexx EyesWideOpen 07-09-2001, 09:26 AM What are you trying to do (and where are you trying to do it) when you get the message? Rexx 07-09-2001, 10:44 AM Well ... hmm I did multiple X-login through /gdm.conf .. so instead of 1 (Ctrl-Alt-F7) X login I made one more which I can execute by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F8. I tried to login to both X-Windows and 1 CLI login, and everything is normal 'cause I can move one to another. Then I tried to connect to I-net through both X-Win using mozilla. Suddenly, system locked up and when I change to CLI, there's a message (which I forgot). then tried to another CLI (Ctrl-Alt-F2), same thing happen ... I can't typed or moved the mouse ... so I pressed reset button ... to reboot the system ... And the message appear after I did that. I tried to boot from the bootdisk, but same thing happened (Unable to open an inital console) My system : PIII-866 / 256 MB / 20 GB and Kernel 2.4.2, filesystem ext2 Rexx bdg1983 07-09-2001, 04:32 PM It could be that /etc/inittab was corrupted. If you cannot even boot from diskette, then a reinstall may be your only choice. I would keep trying though and leave a reinstall until the last resort. Perhaps try another bootdisk available on the net that may get you to a console where you can mount your root partition and attempt to fix the problem. justlinux.com
