I have a burned version of mandrake (I took the cd, copied the files to the hd, and then re-burned them to a cd). Shortly after my offical mandrake cd went to the trash, my cat got ahold of it http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/frown.gif
When I go to install mandrake I cannot boot to the cd, and when I install through windows > dos it says 'there does not seem to be a mandrake cd in the cdrom drive'. Any way I can get the cd to work??

I tried that with RedHat 4.2 a long time ago. I think that if you grab the files off the CD in Windows it will do the following to the copied CD making it unuseable for a clean install....
RedHat (Mandrake too) tries to grab the CD Volume Name for starters. I never was able to remaster a RH CD from scratch even if I entered the data into CD-Creator Deluxe for the Volume Name/Abstract/Date etc.
There *might* be an issue of the filenames themselves. Even if you master with Long File Names or Joliet, your CD software will rename some filenames. Example: kde-1.1.4-i386.rpm will become KDE-1_1_4-i386.RPM on you mastered CD. You cannot have more than one . (period) in a ISO9660 name. Had that problem with my Yellowdog CD I made. Therefore your installer program for Linux cannot find the files it needs.
At this point, all you can do with that CD is manually install RPMS on a running Mandrake (RedHat) linux box. It wont install "fresh" off that CD.
If you have high speed internet access (Cable/DSL), you can download the latest Mandrake 7.2 ISOs from www.linuiso.org (http://www.linuiso.org) and make 2 brand spanking new CDs! Thats what I did here. After running SuSE Linux for many years, I might actually switch to 'Drake 7.2 now! If you don't have access to DL the .ISO files, I might be willing to mail ya a copy of my 'Drake 7.2 for nothin. E-Mail me if interested.
