Is it possible to get a thin client terminal like a Wyse or Compaq appliance, to use in on linux lan.
We simply need a small footprint 'pc' to telnet into a server application. No other application are run. Just telnet.
The system is in an area where space is a premium. The Client would like to get away from buying a desktop pc iff possible.
Thanks
btw...communications is strictly tcp/ip, peer-to-peer

This goes beyond most thin clients specs. But if you can get a one with a floppy drive, then you have all the control and apps you need (just telnet not SSH?)
Whats easier that just puting a disk in and walking away.

Funny you should mention about attempting to set up a thin client. I just purchased a Netier XL100 Thin Client that has Embedded NT installed, and so far I have been able to integrate it into my Linux network without too much difficulty. That allows me to use the embedded IE5.0 browser to surf the net which is a good start considering I just it Monday. I am now working on setting it up to boot into Linux from the network, though this is a bit on hold at the moment until I can get some networking problems straightened out with DHCP.
There is a Howto on this: http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Diskless-HOWTO.html

khobar,
Thanks. Actually the lan currently is a 4 PC, peer-to-peer MS windows LAN. We have added a linux application server, hosting a multi-user application accessed via telnet.
In the future, the end-user would like to add additional workstations with out the bulk. If I can't find a thin-client appliance to work, the only other solution is an inexpensive laptop.
