okay, complete newb here. I just downloaded mandrake 8 and installed it and now I'd like to get on the net with it.

My isp (@home) uses DHCP, now with my mac and my friend's windows computers, all we have to do is enter our 'computer name' that @home gave us, select dhcp and we connect automatically. I would try to do the same with linux but I don't know how to change or name the computer.

Mandrake 8.0
Gnome
Linsys Ethernet Card
@home cable modem

any guidance would really be appreciated!

Isn't there a network config tool in DrakConf? If not, try running netconfig.

Usually there is a DrakConf icon on the desktop. If not, open up a terminal and run

DrakConf

and for netconfig run

netconfig

I think that should work

Actually, the command is "netconf", not "netconfig".
The "Hostname+Domain" field is where you enter the computer name that @home assigned you.

Hi I am having this problem too, wondering how to get rogers@home cable connection to work in linux. Under the host+domain field in netconfig I enter the computer name. But I am still getting the error msg saying dhcpcd failed to retrieve the ip. Any idea what i should do?
