I have a laptop running RedHat 7.1 and KDE 2.1
When I start kppp and access the internet I am unable to start any more applications, either from the panel or the desktop.
Applications that were loaded prior to accessing the net run fine, but no others can be started!!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance,
Andy

I had the same problem with redhat about 2 years ago, the solution for me was to delete my home directory and recreate it, so kde had to re create all of its config files. Some config file must have gotten screwed up somehow, although I never found out which one.

what's happening tis that you have checked the option "set hostname from IP" (or something similar) in KPPP, so your hostname changes as soon as you establish the PPP connection. This is BAD, since then programs can't authenticate with the X server which they thought was at a certain hostname, but ceased to exist.

Just disable this checkmark :-)
