I have a little problem I can not figure out. When the puter trys to go into runlevel 5 the screen flashes 5 times and then returns back to runlevel 3. Why is it doing this and how would I go about fixin this feature.

Thanks for your help.

I had this problem once, what is your hardware specs ?

The only time I had this problem is when my X windows configuration was wrong.

Did it work previously ?

That is exactly your problem. Your xserver is crashing. It tries all modes (the flashing) then gives up after it's tried each mode.
What xserver do you need to use?
Even after specifying I needed xserver-svga during the installation, it still installed only the xserver-vga16. Blah!
So after installation was finished, I then needed to apt-get install xserver-svga. It then asked if I would like that to be my default xserver. I, of course, said yes, and x works just fine now. http://www.linuxnewbie.org/ubb/smile.gif
So make sure you have the proper xserver for your vid card.
