Why can't I telnet into my Suse machine from another machine.

The error message I get is

telnetd: getnameinfo.

connection closed by foreign host.

I am able to ping this machine and use SSH to connect.Any help would be much appreciated.

why not use SSH, which is more secure anyway.

You can SSH from a windoze PC using PuTTY which is also free.

As to your error, have you tried telnet with the IP address rather than hostname?

SSH is the way to go but if you insist on telnet, are you sure you have a telnet server installed on the SuSE box? Is it turned on?

Doh... Okay have to ask the silly question are you using a router? If so you need to turn on the port in your router config. I beat this down for almost a week before I got it figured out.

Well anything is better than nothing!
