I have two PCs running win98 and they are networked together. I just successfully
installed Linux (duel boot) on my second machine. I want be able to share my internet
connection from my first machine(windows) to my second machine(linux), with a proxy
or nat server. The way I have it networked is I have 2 NICs in my windows machine and
one NIC in my linux machine. The first NIC in the windows machine is connected to my
cable modem and the second NIC (in the same machine) is connected to the NIC in the
Linux machine. I am new to linux so I do not know how to set up the network on it.
Basically, all I want to do is get this baby on the net.
Any
help is appreciated.

Fist, which distro do you use? There some diferences....
Win98(SE) has a feature to share an internet connection. If you just want http and ftp you can use a shareware proxy called Sambar (http://www.sambar.com).
What kind of NIC do you use in your Linux box?
Btw. I think win98 doesn't support more then one NIC...(correct me if this is wrong)

(1)I am using Red Hat 7 version on my second maching.
(2)Actually my main machine is running ME not 98, sorry. (I hate ME so much, I'm sad I "upgraded", if you can call it upgrading) Anyway, I have the network working fine when both machines are booted into Windows. I have a good idea of how to share internet from my Win box to my linux box with a proxy server, but the problem is, I don't know how to go about getting the network to work... You know, to the point to where I can ping each machine.
I hope you understand what im trying to say.
Could you give the steps to getting the network to work.
Thanks in advance.
BTW

*grins*
1) determine which network card driver you need to install in linux
2) ensure that the driver is built either a)as a module or b) into the kernel
3) transfer the network settings for said card from windows to linux.

Thanks for replying,
Sorry about all of the questions, but like I said, I'm new to linux.
Ok, My NIC is a PCI Ethernet DEC 21041 .
Where do I get the drivers and how do I install them once I get them?

The driver and installation info are
here (http://www.scyld.com/network/tulip.htmlhttp://www.scyld.com/network/tulip.html).
For help on getting your card and network configured, read the networking NHFs (http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/intel/network/) and search this forum (or the General Linux Questions forum). Network setup is a pretty popular topic here, so you'll find that any questions you might have will have been addressed in previous posts.
