i got slackware 8 running samba (for fileserving). It was up for maybe 4 hours, and i got to turn the monitor on and the keyboard and mouse dont respond. I cant use the computer from its own keyboard or mouse. The filesharing still works and i can play a CD using the conrols on the CD rom itself. Its like the I/O being blocked is of the mouse and keyboard...why could be causing that to happen?

well there are two things i can think of:
If you are using KDE it could be you have energy saving turned on. go into kde setup and turn it off if its on. if you arent running kde this is not a problem

or it could be your vid card is getting overworked. i think thats what is happening to me, because the display locks up sometimes when I try to switch from console to X

also, try hitting ctrl+alt+backspace to see if you can get out of X. if you can it might just be something buggy with X.

Well I hope that helps a little :)

well when i leave my computer i leave it at the KDM screen, never logged in. Ctrl-alt backspace wouldnt work....all I/Ofrom peripherals is blocked. Thats the first thing i tried :)
