Hi,

I have got my KDE root user setup sweet. I know It's now time to move to my own user so I need to get my menus and preferences moved over to a new account. I've searched everywhere and everyone's explanations are a bit to technical. Could someone please explain this to a total newbie? Pretend I'm your grandmother and your walking me through it over the phone. I'm running redhat 7.1 and KDE. Basically when I create a new user and logon as that user I get different menus than root has (I have no listing for browsers, e-mail, etc, -but root does). How can I get all these menus and preferences to a new user account? Please help as I'm seriously making an effort to leave Microshaft. THANKS!!!

what you need to do is copy /root/.kde/ to /home/yourusername/.kde/

Also, keep in mind that it's usually a good idea to NOT customize your menus as root, and in fact make no changes to any sort of user interface with root.

If you personalize your own account, but leave the root account with all of the default preferences, then it just gives you that much more motivation to not log in as root (if root has bad default prefs that make you uncomfortable, you won't use root account).
